 Odisha Health Minister Naba Das Shot in Suspected Pre-Planned Attack, Raising Concerns on Security Measures

In a shocking incident, Odisha Health Minister Naba Das was shot and injured by an unidentified miscreant near Gandhi chhak in Brajarajnagar, Jharsuguda district on Sunday. The exact reason behind the attack is yet to be determined, but it is suspected to have been pre-planned as Das was allegedly shot at from a close range.

According to sources, the incident occurred when Naba Das was on his way to attend a program. The unidentified miscreant opened fire on Das after he stepped out of his vehicle. The incident has raised serious questions about the security measures in place, as the minister had police escort for the program he was scheduled to attend.

Following the incident, Naba Das was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, with bullet wounds on his chest. Tensions were high at the scene, with BJD activists staging a dharna in response to the attack.

As Naba Das is a key BJD leader, and firing at him ahead of the 2024 elections is certainly a matter of grave concern, as Odisha has a history of witnessing violence during the polls, said senior journalist Prasanna Mohanty.

"We are completely shocked after getting the news over phone. Who is involved and why it happened is too early to say. We pray for his speedy recovery. We condemn the incident, and police will carry out a detailed investigation," said senior BJD leader Prasanna Acharya.

The senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Naba Das was recently in the news for reportedly donating gold kalas worth over Rs 1 crore to a temple in Maharashtra. Das had reportedly donated the kalas made of Rs 1.7 kg of gold and 5 kg of silver to the Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra, one of the country's famous Shani shrines.

The incident has sparked widespread concern and condemnation, with many calling for a thorough investigation and stricter security measures to protect political leaders and prevent such attacks from happening in the future.
