The Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India, is a grand and historic building located in the heart of the capital city of New Delhi. The gardens surrounding the Rashtrapati Bhavan have long been a popular spot for visitors, known for their beauty and serenity.

As part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of India's independence, known as "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav," the President of India has given a common name to these gardens: Amrit Udyan. The old road sign that said "Mughal Gardens" was removed and taken away in a bulldozer, with the new sign reading "Amrit Udyan" installed in its place.

The Mughal Gardens, as they were previously known, were designed in the traditional Mughal style of architecture, featuring geometric patterns, fountains, and water channels. The gardens were a favorite spot of the British colonizers, who used them as a place to relax and entertain guests.

However, with the renaming of the gardens as Amrit Udyan, the focus shifts to the significance of the gardens as a symbol of Indian freedom. The name "Amrit" means "nectar" in Hindi, symbolizing the rejuvenation and renewal of the nation. The word "Udyan" means "garden" in Hindi, highlighting the natural beauty of the gardens.

The renaming of the gardens is part of a larger effort to re-contextualize and reclaim India's history and cultural heritage. It is an attempt to move away from the dominant narrative of colonialism and instead highlight the contributions and achievements of indigenous peoples.
